As Christians, a major part of our walk with God is prayer - talking to Him. It is something we can do anytime - anywhere. I often find myself praying while cleaning, cooking, making beds, etc. And I am so thankful for that privilege. Many religions don't see it that way. They believe you have to talk to a "chosen man" who will "pass on the request" to God. How sad! I am so glad that I don't have to wait to go to church, or to talk to some human being in order to talk with God. I can do it whenever I want, wherever I want! Praise the Lord for that!
I was thinking on prayer today as I was going about my tasks. Last night at prayer meeting, I prayed with two other ladies. One is a godly lady who has been saved for quite a few years, and she and her husband were in the ministry at one time. She is a real prayer warrior and writes all requests down and is continually checking up on requests you have shared. I appreciate that so much.
The other girl I prayed with is the young girl I have mentioned recently. She and her boyfriend have just gotten saved and have been coming to church for about a month. When we all sat down, she smiled at us and said, "Now, I'm not too good at this praying just yet, but I want to try." I was impressed with that - we hadn't even asked her yet! We don't ever force anyone to pray, so I certainly wasn't going to force her, either. But she wanted to - and she did. Let me tell you, it was so sweet. She prayed for specific requests that had been given, she was heartfelt in thanking the Lord for saving her. And it was so cute when she closed her prayer like this, "Well, that's all for now God. Amen." I love it! It made me smile. We told her that prayer is really just talking to God. There are no "right" words to say. Just speak your heart!
I think of that with my children. Matt and I never force our children to pray, either. We want them to WANT to pray, not to pray because mommy or daddy said you had too. For a while, neither Liam nor Leila wanted to pray. And that was fine. But lately, they both always want to pray - especially at meals. So we usually have 2-3 prayers for our food! :-)
Anyways, tonight after I tucked Liam into bed after he prayed, I decided I was going to start something new. Children pray the sweetest prayers sometimes. Hearing my child pray has often brought tears to my eyes and a huge smile to my heart. Sometimes they are so cute and so sweet in what they say. And I want to remember that. So, I am going to occasionally write down what they prayed for so that I will be able to have it written down and be able to remember it. I pray that, someday soon, I will be able to record the prayer of my children asking Jesus into their heart. I pray so hard for that day to be when they are young!
Leila did not want to pray tonight, but Liam did. Here was his prayer:
"Dear Jesus. Thank you for this day. Thank you for God. Thank you for learning the letter "G." Thank you for learning the letter "K" soon. Thank you for all things. In Jesus name, Amen."
I bet you that prayer didn't just make me smile. I bet you God is smiling too.
Until next time....
